Early January 2008 I moved to Morocco for 5 months for a study abroad opportunity.  I studied at the prestigious Al Akhawayn University, focusing on anthropology, visual communication, and the history and politics of the Middle East and the Arab World.  It is a goal of mine to study a language or culture from the point of view of the locals to better understand the developments and reasonings of the people.

Living there I predominantly utilized the French that I studied for three years in High School to get around, while also formally studying the basics of Modern Standard Arabic, and informally learning colloquial ‘Darija’ (Moroccan Arabic) phrases.  I also held a part time position playing in a band at a local restaurant, and ran for the AUI track team.

I intend to pursue Arabic language as far as I can and continue to explore and learn about the intriguing Arab World.
